My focus in hiring is on the overall fit between candidate and firm. One really has to have an understanding of the firm and the people to make for the right marriage. When Laura originally approached me about my current role, I wasn't quite ready. She listened and she understood my reasons, but she kept revisiting it with me. She had taken the time to fully understand the firm's specific needs in replacing a long-time and well-liked COO, and then she took the time to get to know me. She had to work hard to get me to think about it, not in a pushy or difficult way, but gently and persistently leading me down that path because she was convinced it was a good fit for me and for the firm. And she was right. She made the process very personal, and I share that story often when interviewing candidates because it was a meaningful experience for me and for my current firm.
